July - September Activities

During this period, ATTAC instructed an Intro to Small Water Systems Workshop in Sand Point and an Advanced Sanitary Survey Course for the Pennsylvania TAC in Delaware.

ATTAC staff conducted eight sanitary surveys during the month of August.

ATTAC staff began development of two new online courses, Applied Environmental Regulations and Instrumentation. The courses are scheduled to be completed for the Spring 2007 semester through the University of Alaska SE Sitka Campus.

What's New

ATTAC has received $492,600 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Office of Water. This is the Center's ninth year of funding. ATTAC is focused on enhancing and maintaining the capacity of small water systems to reliably and consistently deliver safe drinking water to the public. We work closely with state agencies and several Native health corporations and have set the standard for providing and delivering concise, technical information related to drinking water throughout Alaska.

Online Operator Courses

The following intermediate courses will be offered online in January 2007 through the University of Alaska SE Sitka Campus' Environmental Technology (ENVT) program:

  • Applied Environmental Regulations (2 credits)
  • Instrumentation (3 credits)
  • Water Treatment (3 credits)
  • Wastewater Treatment (3 credits)
  • Hydraulics will be offered as an online class with an audio conference component (3 credits)

These Environmental Technology courses qualify toward the ENVT water and wastewater occupational endorsements and AAS Degree. The ADEC Operator Training and Certification Program recognizes the ENVT courses for CEUs (1 credit = 1.5 CEUs).

Contact Tim Anderson for more information regarding these courses, prerequisites, or the ENVT program. Registration for the Spring 2007 semester begins November 20 and Spring classes begin January 16.

TACNet

ATTAC is part of TACNet, a small public water systems Technology Assistance Center network. Together, the small public water systems Technology Assistance Centers form a network with the common goal to protect public health, improve water system sustainability, and enhance compliance. They do this by applying university resources to address the needs of rural and small public water systems or public water systems that serve Indian Tribes, in the following areas: Technology Verification, Pilot and Field Testing of Innovative Technologies, and Training and Technical Assistance.

The network of eight centers are all funded by the U.S. EPA and are located at: University of Alaska SE Sitka, Montana State University, University of Illinois, University of Missouri, Mississippi State University, Western Kentucky University, Penn State University, and University of New Hampshire.

Lending Library

ATTAC maintains a lending library of books and videos in a variety of water and wastewater subjects (certification study guides too!). If you live in Alaska and are interested in receiving a book or video please check them out using our online form found on the web page. Items may be borrowed for 45 days.
