1. Does the training include CPR/First Aid training?

Only first aid training is included in the MSHA Part (a) underground and Part (b) surface trainings. CPR is not included. You will receive a first aid certification card from MAPTS. If you are already certified in this training, bring your certification showing your training is current and you will not need to take the training again.

2. Do I need Part 48a or Part 48b new/experienced miner training?

Part 48a training applies to people who only work in the underground operation.

Part 48b applies to work on the surface at an underground mine.

In addition everyone must attend training on emergency medical procedures. This training can be first aid training offered by UAS/MAPTS or first aid/EMT/ETT certification gained elsewhere.
