Early Childhood Teacher Certification (PreK-3)
The Early Childhood Education (ECE) Certification Program is a
non-degree post-baccalaureate program of study preparing students for an
initial teaching certificate in early childhood education preK–grade 3. UAS provides the Institutional Recommendation to the
Alaska Department of Education and Early Development which grants the certification for preK–grade 3.
The ECE Certification program is offered by distance delivery only and is available to students in urban and rural communities throughout the state. Students in the program must be self-directed learners, must have access to high speed Internet connections and must schedule time during the school year to complete weekly intensive practicum assignments and a semester of student teaching in an elementary school. ECE Certification students must receive approval of the local school district, as extensive practicum experiences are required.
ECE Certification program students may opt to apply to the Early Childhood Master of Arts in Teaching Program, distance-delivered.
