Applying to the Graduate Certificate Program

By completing the UAS Graduate Certificate in ED Technology, you qualify for the UAS Institutional Recommendation to the Alaska Department of Education and Early Development's Endorsement in Educational Technology.  You may apply for this program at any point in your coursework, but you must apply before applying to EED for your endorsement.

Important Note: The admission application form is online but all other materials should be mailed to Marsha Gladhart, School of Education, 11120 Glacier Highway, HA1, Juneau, AK 99801. The School of Education will forward your application materials to the appropriate offices at the university.

  1. A completed graduate application and $60 processing fee.
  2. Official academic transcript indicating baccalaureate degree and a GPA of 3.0
  3. Two (2) general recommendations written by former or current professors, employers, or supervisors who are familiar with your work and performance. Each recommendation must be submitted using the Letter of Recommendation for Graduate Programs form. The form is available in Word and PDF formats.
  4. A recommendation documenting your ability to meet the educational technology standards required for entry to the program. This recommendation should be completed by an administrator, supervisor, or technology leader. The form is available in Word and PDF formats. (New in Spring 2009)
  5. Statement of Professional Objectives. This is a 2-3 page typewritten and double spaced formal paper containing:
    • a summary of educational experiences,
    • a description of professional goals related to what is needed to teach students in Alaska and beyond,
    • evidence of advanced understanding of technology operations and concepts, and
    • a statement of how the program for advanced teaching candidates might help in attaining those goals. (An advanced teaching candidate is someone who is currently teaching, has taught, has experience in education, or has a teaching credential and access to a classroom for field experience.)
    • This statement will be judged in terms of readability and style as well as compatibility of the student's objectives and expectations and the goals of the program
  6. A copy of a current teaching or administrative certificate.
  7. Once you meet the above criteria, you will be admitted on a departmental conditional basis. After you complete ED 628 and ED 632 with B or better you will be admitted with full status. (New in Summer 2009)

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Marsha Gladhart, Coordinator of the Educational Technology Program.

How to Apply to EED for your Endorsement (after completing coursework)

  1. Go to the Teacher Certification page at the EED Web site and follow their directions to Add an Endorsement.
  2. Send EED's Add an Endorsement form and a check made out to EED for their fee to UAS-School of Education,  11120 Glacier Hwy, HA1, Juneau, AK 99801 (current fee information is on the form).
  3. Request that all relevant official transcripts be sent to UAS-School of Education, 11120 Glacier Hwy, HA1, Juneau, AK 99801. To obtain transcripts from any University of Alaska unit, visit UAOnline.

When we receive the above items, we will verify that you have completed all coursework for the Endorsement and will notify you if anything is missing. We will then forward your paperwork to EED, and they will mail you the endorsement.

Please note that once your information and materials are submitted and accepted, you are in EED's database as having the endorsement. However, it can take 3-6 months for the certificate to actually arrive in the mail. If you want to call EED to check on the status of your endorsement, phone 907-465-2800.
