Snowpit info

Anyone curious as to the snowpit stratigraphy symbols we use, stability tests we perform, or acronyms (ie: SWE) we use in the snowpit data, is encouraged to visit the American Avalanche Association (AAA) and/ or the Canadian Avalanche Association (CAA) web sites and read their observational and recording guidelines for weather, snow and avalanches. These sites are:

AAA: http://www.avalanche.org/~research/guidelines/

CAA: http://www.avalanche.ca

Also, the program we compile our snow pit stratigraphy on (SnowPro+) is available in demo form for free at:

SnowPro+: http://www.gasman.com/

If you have a problem seeing these snowpits you might not have Adobe Reader, this can be downloaded for free at:

The new Fish Creek study site and the meteorological tower (WXFC1) is located at 58° 15.691'N, 134° 31.044'W with an elevation of approx. 670m. Eran Hood, Dominic Shallies, and Edwin Knuth of UAS operate the met. station. Kent Scheler is currently on student exchange in Bozeman, MT. Dan Phillips, Coastal Helicopters, and Haight & Associates provided a great deal of support, for which we are very grateful.
