Our former product, Macromedia Breeze has been upgraded to Adobe Presenter 7. The new version works similar to the older version. To access new features and to work with Vista and Office 2007 users will have to download the new plug-in. (see below)
Adobe Presenter uses a plug-in that is integrated into Powerpoint on your computer. The Presenter plug-in will allow you to add audio to your presentation and then publish it to a compressed file (zipped) or uploaded to the Adobe Connect server and published using Flash. The URL can be captured from the server and used anywhere in UAS Online. The zipped file can also be uploaded to the UAS Online system (including ePortfolio).
The Adobe Presenter software is installed on UAS academic computers. Adobe Presenter only works on PC's. It will not install on a MAC, but the Flash output can be viewed on any computer with Flash installed.
First Step - Download Plug-in
All students have access to the Adobe Connect server at http://breeze5.uas.alaska.edu. You can login in using your regular UAS username and password and download the plug-in for your home computer. After logging in click on the "Open" link under the "Getting Started" section. Scroll down the page to the "Publish Presentation" section and click on the "Install Adobe Presenter" link. IMPORTANT: This is a 63 meg file and may take a while to download.
Second Step - Create Presentation
A Getting Started Presentation is installed when you install the plug-in. Follow the instructions to create your presentation. You will need a headset with a boom mike to add your audio.
Final Step - Upload Presentation
There are two very distinct methods of uploading a presentation based on:
1. The instructor is having everyone use Presenter. The instructor will ask everyone to log into the Adobe Connect server with their UAS username and password. They will then post a request to the Helpdesk to have everyone receive Publish access on the server. (It will take about a week.) Publish access can not be provided until the students sign on to the server. After installation make sure you open Powerpoint and at the top of the menu pull-down the menu for Adobe Connect and select Preferences. Click on the Server tab and Add. Give it a name such as "Adobe Presenter" and http://breeze5.uas.alaska.edu for the URL and hit save. Here is a short video showing the process after you click on Publish in the Adobe Presenter menu in Powerpoint.
2. All other students will have to zip their presentations in Adobe Presenter on their computer and upload them to their portfolios. After uploading the link can be inserted in Discussions or Forums. Instructions are here.
Instructors formerly using Breeze can sign in with their old Breeze account and continue to upload content. New faculty users can sign into the Adobe Connect server with their UAS username and password and download the plug-in on their home computers. (If you need to upgrade your office version, please place a work order with the Helpdesk.) After signing into the server place a request with the Helpdesk to have publishing rights added to your account. Contact one of the UAS instructional designers for assistance in using Adobe Presenter.
