That's right! UAS has upgrading the mail server, and with that upgrade comes a transition of mail accounts, a new mail interface for webmail, an increased quota and more.
Naturally, IT Services is working to minimize the impact to users, but we appreciate your patience in the process.
Some core details:
- Server switch took place the weekend of August 14-16.
- All accounts were transitioned by Saturday, August 15 around 4pm.
- Users will be able to continue using their current mail client solution (Thunderbird, Outlook, Mail, etc.)
- Users configured to connect via POP3 are encouraged to work with the Helpdesk to transition to another method.
Campus users (UAS - Juneau, Ketchikan, and Sitka):
- Setting Up Outlook to use Exchange (Still under construction)
Please check out the available FAQs
- Mail Transition FAQ
- Exchange Server FAQ (EXHAUSTIVE, still under construction)
- Configuring your iPhone for Exchange (Basic setup, still under construction)
- Configuring Entourage to access Exchange (Initial setup, still under construction)
Connecting to Exchange from off campus:
The mechanism that Exchange utilizes on the PC for connecting to your computer is frequently used by nefarious characters for not-so-positive efforts. To this end, we require users who are located off campus and connecting from a PC to the Exchange mechanism (rather than IMAP) to first establish a connection through a VPN client to the UAS network. This is not required from the Macintosh platform.
If you have other questions about this transition, please let us know and we'll do our best to respond as quickly as possible! It may be easiest to pass us your questions via email (helpdesk@uas.alaska.edu), but you're certainly welcome to call (877-465-6400) as well!
