Warning Signs

The following are some warning signs of depression. If you, or someone you care about is experiencing any of these, please call and make an appointment with our counselor.

  • Major loss of loved person, home, possessions, status, achievement
  • Neglect of appearance
  • Noticeable change in school performance or attendance
  • Withdrawal from friends and family
  • Change in eating and/or sleeping habits
  • Self-criticism or poor self esteem
  • Irritability or restlessness
  • Frequent crying and/or angry outburst
  • Increased use of alcohol or drugs
  • Sudden onset of self destructive behavior, like fast driving
  • Intense feelings of being trapped and helpless, without any hope of changing the situation
  • References to suicide either written or verbal
  • Prior suicide reattempts
  • Sudden euphoria following long depression
  • Giving away prized possessions
