An introduction to arts, culture, and technology (ACT) integration, and will emphasize lessons and practices that can be used in the classroom setting. As part of the Sitka school district's ACT+IT partnership with the University of Alaska Southeast, the Sitka Fine Arts Camp, and the Margaret A Cargill Philanthropies, this retreat is designed to support teachers (within their first five years of placement) to develop strengths in teaching through the arts, culture, and technology.

Cold Water Safety and Survival for Educators is an asynchronous course designed to provide students with information they need to teach children and young adults to play and work safely in and around cold water. Students are taught using sample exercises from the first two volumes of Alaska Marine Education Associations (AMSEA's) extensive K-12 curriculum, many adapted for online learning. A Risk Assessment module is added a an important component of planning outdoor activities with youth. Alaska Content Standards for all activities are provided, although accessing the most up-to-date Standards online is advised. Total cost of this graduate level course is $605.00 for two university credits. This includes a $465.00 course fee paid directly to AMSEA and a $140.00 fee paid to UAS Sitka. A fall symposium of lectures as part of the annual Sitka WhaleFestÂ’s. World-renowned scientists come to Sitka to share their current research findings on a wide range of subjects during a three-day symposium. This innovative science outreach program gives future scientists and life-long learners opportunities to meet and learn from a diverse group of scientists who are passionate about their research. Each afternoon, symposium participants and guest speakers will explore a daily theme connected to the overall them of the symposium. To pass, students must attend an introductory class (can be in class, by audio or web), all symposium lectures, daily follow-up discussions with invited researchers, participate in a marine wildlife viewing cruise, and provide written summaries of the lectures by the end of the semester.
