Law Enforcement Programs

Law Enforcement AAS badgeThose interested in joining the law enforcement profession are unique individuals, willing to devote their careers to the protection of others and to leadership within their communities. The path to becoming a law enforcement official also demands a substantial amount of education and training.

The University of Alaska Southeast, Sitka's Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Law Enforcement is open to anyone* interested in the many and varied careers available in law enforcement. This A.A.S. degree can lead to positions at the local, state, or federal level.

High school graduates interested in a career in law enforcement will find that the A.A.S. degree program in Law Enforcement is ideal. It can be completed during the period of time that young adults must wait between graduation and the age of eligibility (21 years) for application to the Alaska Law Enforcement Training (ALET) Academy, the University of Alaska Fairbanks Day Academy, or any other law enforcement academy.

Current police officers, and others in law enforcement positions who are interested in opportunities for advancement, may pursue the A.A.S. in their spare time by studying from home, as all coursework is completed online.

*The Sitka Campus of UAS does not charge out-of-state tuition to American citizens as a general rule. We are also considered a military-friendly campus by the US Veterans Administration. Overseas students, whether American or other nationality, should check with our Student Success Center to see if any citizenship or visa regulations apply.
