Ocean Sciences Bowl 2009

Ocean Sciences group photoMarine Biology freshmen and Ocean Sciences Bowl alumni assisted Marine Biology faculty Sherry Tamone in helping the Juneau Douglas and Thunder Mountain High School ocean sciences teams practice for the Statewide Ocean Sciences Bowl competition. Tamone traveled to Seward Alaska from February 5-8 to judge and moderate at the annual Tsunami Ocean Sciences Bowl. Teams consisting of 5 high school students presented projects that focused on Ocean Acidiἀcation. All teams also participated in a game show style quiz bowl. There were 15 teams from all over Alaska and the top two teams were from Juneau. Ben Carney (JDHS) coached the ἀrst place team and Jake Jacoby (TMHS) coached the second place team. UAS and UAF provided $2,000 tuition wavers for the 1st and 2nd place teams.
