Hayes and Santa Fe
“I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to meet so many gifted teachers and artists ..."
Ernestine Hayes spent a week as the Lannan Writer in Residence at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, where she spoke to creative writing classes, met individually with students, and presented an evening reading on campus. In addition, she was invited to the Santa Fe Indian School to watch their award-winning Spoken Word performances and learn from their process. “It was inspiring and exhilarating,” Ernestine says of her visit. “I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to meet so many gifted teachers and artists, and to make so many new friends. I’m extremely impressed at the caliber of their programs, their writing, and all of their art.” Ernestine hopes to return to Santa Fe in the near future.
