Dr. Jill Dumesnil Graduates from the 2010 HERS Denver Institute
HERS Institute for Women in Higher Education annually offers women faculty and administrators the opportunity to participate in an intensive program that prepares them to be leaders in higher education.

Dr. Jill Dumesnil, Associate Professor of Mathematics, University of Alaska Southeast, recently graduated from the HERS Denver Institute, held Aug. 1-7, Sept. 9-11 and Oct. 21-23 at the University of Denver, Denver, Colorado.
Since 2007, the HERS Institute for Women in Higher Education at the University of Denver has annually offered women faculty and administrators the opportunity to participate in an intensive program that prepares them to be leaders in higher education.
The 55 participants selected for this year’s Institute represented 46 institutions across the U.S. Responding to the current environment for higher education globally, the Institute had a special focus this year on “Women’s Leadership in Times of Crisis: Leveraging Our Responses for Institutional Renewal.” Topics studied included “Understanding Our New Economic Environment,” “Planning Our Strategies beyond Recovery,” “Empowering and Sustaining Leadership,” and more.
Dr. Dumesnil has been at University of Alaska Southeast since 2005. She previously spent 12 years as a mathematics faculty member at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX after completing her Ph.D. in mathematics at Louisiana State University in 1993. Her recent achievements include chairing the University of Alaska Faculty Alliance and the UAS Faculty Senate in 2008-09, chairing the UAS Provost Search Committee in 2009-10, serving on the UAS Strategic and Accreditation Planning Committee in 2010-11, and being selected to participate in the UAS Leadership Seminar in 2010-11.
Her participation in the HERS Denver Institute was sponsored by the UAS Office of the Chancellor and the UAS Office of the Provost. She was the first woman from University of Alaska Southeast to have been sponsored to participate in HERS Institutes at Bryn Mawr College, Wellesley College or the University of Denver.
