"The mission of the University of Alaska Southeast is teaching, research, and engagement distinguished by a focus on student success and the cultures and environment of Southeast Alaska."
This is the draft mission statement for your review from the Strategic and Assessment Planning Team for our Strategic and Assessment Plan, 2010-2017. Over the course of four day-long meetings this fall, a 55-person team of faculty, staff, students, and community representatives brainstormed, discussed and wrangled over core themes, values and vision for UAS that serve as the foundation for the mission statement. I'd like to thank this team for their work and input on the draft plan. Core themes identified by the team are:
Student Success – provide the academic support and student services that facilitate student access and completion of educational goals Teaching and Learning – provide a broad range of programs and services resulting in student engagement and empowerment for academic excellence Community Engagement – provide programs and services that connect with local, state, national, and international entities on programs, events, services, and research that respond to the economic, environmental, social , and cultural needs and resources of Southeast Alaska Research and Creative Expression – provide programs and services that support research, scholarship, and creative expression by faculty and students Each core theme has corresponding goals, objectives, and metrics. The plan also identifies overarching strategies for implementation and initiating actions that can be taken in the next 12-18 months.
You can find the draft plan in an email sent by Provost Rick Caulfield or go to the Provost's office website at www.uas.alaska.edu/provost/sap10_17.html.
