Professor of Native Languages and Culture Richard Dauenhauer Retires

Dr. Dauenhauer was instrumental in developing the Alaska Native Language program and inspiring creative writing at UAS.

Friends and colleagues of poet, translator and Tlingit expert Dr. Richard Dauenhauer congratulate him on his retirement from UAS and thank him for his many years of service and teaching in Tlingit language, literature, and culture.  As President’s Professor and a former Alaska Poet Laureate, Dr. Dauenhauer was instrumental in developing the Alaska Native Language program and inspiring creative writing at UAS.  He won an American Book Award for Russians in Tlingit America: The Battles of Sitka, 1802 And 1804. He continues to inspire us with his creative ideas, his wisdom, and his energy.  Best Wishes Dick.
