HIM Professors attend AKHIMA Spring Conference
Leslie Gordon received AKHIMA’s "Distinguished Member" award recognizing her efforts in promoting the HIM profession in Alaska.
Rose Goeden and Leslie Gordon recently attended the Alaska Health Information Management Association (AKHIMA) spring conference held at the BP Center in Anchorage May 3-6, 2011. UAS HIM faculty coordinated the conference, bringing speakers from our national association AHIMA as well as from Alaska to present on various topics from ICD-10, E-Discovery, and Alaska eHealth Initiatives to electronic health records. Jeff Johnston, campus director for the Sitka campus gave a presentation on "Time Management." We thank Jeff for his continued support of the HIM Program and AKHIMA.
The HIM Program actively encourages the graduating HIM students to attend the annual conference, get involved with volunteering, and network with other HIM professionals. Ola Mulliken, Carrie Mirando, Janice Norman, and Stephanie Bailey volunteered their time at the conference assisting with registration and introducing speakers. Every year the HIM 280 Healthcare Management students submit posters for the conference; this year’s theme was "Living in a HITECH World." The winning poster was designed by Jessica Johnson, a graduating HIM student. Graphics from the poster were used for AKHIMA’s conference brochure. The poster was displayed at the conference and Jessica received a free one-day registration so that she could attend the conference.
Leslie Gordon received AKHIMA’s "Distinguished Member" award recognizing her efforts in promoting the HIM profession in Alaska. Leslie will serve as President of AKHIMA next year and Rose Goeden will serve on the AKHIMA Board as treasurer.
