2011 UAS Staff Make Students Count
What is most notable about Beatrice is her volunteer efforts on behalf of students.
2011 UAS Staff Make Students Count Award winner Beatrice Franklin joined fellow awardees from UAA, UAF and UA at a ceremony at the June Board of Regents meeting.
Here is the BOR write up on Franklin:
Beatrice Franklin has been with the UAS Egan Library for 14 years. She makes student engagement a top priority in accomplishing tasks, and is a great role model to staff and faculty on campus. What is most notable about Beatrice is her volunteer efforts on behalf of students.
She volunteers as a tutor for the UAS Learning Center and is a recipient of the Alaska Educational Resource Center Volunteer of the Year Award. She is a certified English as a Second Language teacher and through her connection to the ESL community, she has informally become the primary ESL support person for the UAS Learning Resource Center.
It is not uncommon for Beatrice to practice language skills with UAS students, often visiting them on her own time, in addition to working with Native students and elders on projects at UAS and in the community. Her ESL students and students who come into the library and interact with her there love her for being so welcoming and for showing them every day how much she cares for the students and everyone with whom she works.
