We've heard about some exciting openings around Southeast Alaska for our Fish Tech students! Work with SSRAA or the ADF&G:

  • SSRAA has an opening for a Fish Culturist at the Crystal Lake Hatchery. This is a permanent
    full-time position that requires on-site residence in furnished rental housing. Crystal Lake is
    located 17.5 miles from Petersburg on the road system. Interested? Please respond to Loren Thompson at
  • The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (Commercial Fisheries Division) will be hiring permanent seasonal fishery technicians to work at seafood processing facilities in Sitka (and/or on fish tender vessels) collecting biological samples and data from commercially caught salmon. These positions will be staffed approximately June 1 - August 31. Starting pay: $17.86/hr, Applicants must fulfill Alaskan residency requirements. No housing is provided for this position.  Apply online on Workplace Alaska. PCN 11-5238 May 3rd start datePCN 11-1452 and 11-1872 June 1st start date. Questions: Willa Johnson 907-747-8322

  • SSRAA is also hiring a seasonal fisheries research technician. This tech will collect biological data from chum salmon at local fish processing plants and assist with the coded wire tagging process at Whitman Lake Hatchery. The job runs from June 2nd to October 1st, with potential to continue into November. Starting pay is $15.18. Applications will be considered starting April 19!

Sitka Salmon Shares seeks summer seafood processors

Sitka Salmon Shares is looking to hire 30+ locals for this upcoming season. Seasonal processing team members will service a fleet of 22 fishermen owners, offloading their catch and then transforming whole fish into fillets and portions that are shipped to Community Supported Fishery members in the lower-48 states. Salmon Shares will help ensure Alaskans are vaccinated, will pay for COVID testing, and offers a starting hourly rate of $15 with opportunities for overtime!
