09-21-22 Message from the Chancellor
Dear UAS Community,
It is with a heavy heart that we receive news from Western AK - more than 50 communities have been significantly impacted by the remnants of Typhoon Merbok. Our students, faculty, staff, alumni and donors live in or have loved ones affected by the storm.
To our students in and around the affected communities, we understand that you have bigger priorities right now. In fact, many of you may not even be able to receive this email because you don’t have access to power or reliable internet. I encourage faculty to monitor communications from our distance students and to be flexible with course assignments for those directly affected.
To our students here at UAS who are worried about your families, friends, and communities - we are here for you. It’s hard to concentrate on school under these circumstances. Please let us help you. If you need flexibility with your school work, please communicate with your faculty.
Our student services areas on each of our campuses - Juneau, Ketchikan, and Sitka - have staff available to understand and assist. Some specific services include:
● Counseling: 907-796-6000 or uas.info@alaska.edu
● Native & Rural Student Center: 907-796-6454 - uas.nrsc@alaska.edu
