10-10-22 Message from the Chancellor

Dear UAS Community,

Please join me in celebrating IndigenousPeoples' Day on the UAS campuses. The theme this year is “Our Journey Forward.”

I’m excited to share that all three of our campuses have events happening:

  • Juneau is hosting a panel on Indigenous language revitalization at 3 pm, and a film screening on the history and future of Indigenous programs at 4 pm. These events will be available byZoom.

  • Sitka’s activities begin at 5 pm and feature keynote speaker Representative Mary Peltola, as well as fun and engaging breakout sessions, and an artist market.

  • Ketchikan is also having a celebration in their library beginning at 11 am, featuringa poster session with students from Ketchikan Indian Community’s Tribal Scholars Program.

The Indigenouspeoples of Alaska are recognized not only on this day but throughout the year.  We learn from our Alaska Native friends and colleagues and cherish being on their beautiful land and remain richer for the diversity across our campuses. I hope that everyone will join us as we celebrate Our Journey Forward.

Full details on these events can be found on theUAS Campus Events Calendarand I encourage everyone to participate.
