Messages from UAS Chancellor Aparna Palmer (2023-present)
As we get closer to the end of the day, I wanted to send a note to all of you to wish you a wonderful fall break!
We received the news of landslides across Southeast Alaska in the last 36 hours. We have UAS students and employees who are from and/or in Wrangell, Ketchikan, and across Prince of Wales Island.
UAS has participated in the Great Colleges to Work For Survey for the past 3 years. I'd like to share the results with all of you and discuss the areas in which we are doing well as an institution and the areas in which we have challenges and opportunities, now that we have 3 years of data. It is very important to me and to our executive leadership team that UAS is a fulfilling place to work.
While it is important to appreciate and celebrate the cultures, traditions, languages, art, and histories of Indigenous Peoples all year long, this month presents a special opportunity to honor their long-standing stewardship of these lands and their innumerable contributions to the world.
UAS Staff: Some Great News and please remind your current students to register for spring classes! - November 1, 2023
More of our students are able to advance towards achieving their dreams! Thank you for the important role that you play in this work and for collaborating with our faculty on these efforts.
UAS Faculty: Some Great News and please remind your current students to register for spring classes! - November 1, 2023
Our admissions data show that we are up in new applicants for spring by 35% and in newly admitted students for spring by 33% in comparison to last year at this time!
This day is an important one for the United States and particularly significant for our university. We are a university where one in every five students has Alaska Native heritage. We are proud to be a center for Indigenous Studies, where the history, languages, culture, art, and wisdom of the native peoples of Southeast Alaska and beyond can be passed on to current and future generations of Alaska Natives and to the world at large.
Please join me in welcoming our new Director of Equity and Compliance, Mitzi Bolaños Anderson! In her position, she will oversee Title IX, Equal Opportunity issues, the American Disabilities Act/Section 504 requirements, and Clery compliance.
We are honored by the trust that you have placed in UAS and we will do our very best to help your student succeed! We know how important your student is to you and we want to be your and your student's partner in helping them achieve their dreams!
As we embark on the Fall 2023 semester, I wanted to send you a note to tell you how excited I am to be here with you as your new Chancellor!
As we embark on the Fall 2023 semester, I wanted to send you a note to tell you how excited I am to be here with you! I've been in the position of Chancellor for about 2 months now and I still feel the way I did on the day that I accepted the job
Update on the Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services search and thank you to Michael Ciri! - August 21, 2023
As most of you know, Vice Chancellor Michael Ciri will be retiring at the beginning of October. He will be missed a great deal! His dedication, strong work ethic, wisdom, humility, and good cheer are some of the reasons why he has been and continues to be an exceptional leader and colleague at UAS.
Earlier this year, Chancellor Carey shared the news that Priscilla Schulte announced her retirement as the Ketchikan Campus Director.
I want to take a moment to recognize the impact that the flood has had on the Juneau community and to make sure that everyone knows that we are here to help.
On my first day here as your new chancellor, I wanted to send out a note to all of you to recognize Juneteenth.
