Assistant Professor Justin Fantasia joined the UAS Construction Technology program in 2014. Mr. Fantasia hails from the Boston area and attended the University of Massachusetts earning a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Biology. After completing his degree, Justin worked as an outdoor educator, wilderness guide, and carpenter. In 2003 he moved to Alaska to serve as an Amercorps Member working with at risk youth on public lands projects throughout the state. He spent over ten years at a local non-profit managing a Conservation Corps and Construction Training programs.
As an experiential educator and builder, Justin has led students in the construction of over 12 affordable homes in the Juneau community. Through his appointment at UAS he serves as the Construction Manager for the Juneau House Build Partnership, a collaboration with the Juneau Housing Trust and Juneau School District to build affordable housing and provide hands-on learning to students.
Justin is a small business owner, licensed contractor, active community member and alpine adventurer. He is a volunteer board member of the Southeast Alaska Building Industry Association, Eldred Rock Lighthouse Preservation Association and governor appointed to the Serve Alaska Commission. He is a certified OSHA outreach trainer and Carpentry and Core Curriculum Instructor through the National Center for Construction Education and Research. When not in the classroom or on the jobsite, Justin can be found in the mountains; climbing rocks and ice, skiing, running with his pup, or camping with his family. Alpine endeavors include ascents in the Alaska Range, Wrangell-St. Elias, Brooks Range, Coast Range, and abroad. He is thankful to have found a career and community he is passionate about.
