The four modules of the course are Personal Survival, Basic Fire Fighting, First Aid/CPR, and Personal Safety & Social Responsibility. Any candidate who has successfully completed this VPDSD course will satisfy the requirements for security-related training, Paragraphs 6-8 of Section A-VI/6 and Table AVI/6/2 of the STCW Code, as amended, and satisfy the training requirements of 33 CFR 104.220.

This course will teach the student the competencies required to be a Vessel security Officer (VSO) under 33 CFR 104. These include: conducting security inspections, carrying out security plan, coordinating security during cargo/store/personnel loading and unloading, identifying and reporting deficiencies and non-conformities to the plan, enhancing security awareness and vigilance, reporting incidents, and ensuring security equipment is properly operated, tested, calibrated, and maintained.

This U.S. Coast Guard approved course provides training in the use of lifeboats, life rafts and survival gear. It meets the requirements of 46 CFR 12.10-3(a)(6) and 46 CFR 12.10-5 for endorsement for Lifeboatman. It also meets the requirements of Section A-VI/2 and Table A-VI/2-1 of the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) 95. Rain gear may be needed for outside drills.

This intermediate level welding techniques course focuses on shielded metal arc welding - SMAW, plasma arc cutting, oxygen-acetylene cutting, and metal grinding. Students will develop intermediate welding skills including gas metal arc welding using flux core and dual shield wire fillers. A special emphasis will be placed on proper fit-up and alignment for fillet and V-groove welds in the flat, vertical, and overhead positions.

DESL Diesel Technology

Introduction to refrigeration, the mechanisms of heat transfer and the necessary components. Use of manifold gauge sets and the determination of correct operating pressures, superheat and subcooling.
