Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Advanced technical knowledge is not required for this position. However, applicants must: have good communication skills and an ability to provide good customer service in a highly active environment, a basic familiarity with computer software applications, be able to work with direct supervision, and exercise initiative in advancing their technical knowledge. Required Experience & Education:

Appropriate training will be provided by IT Service staff.

Salary Information:

This is a Student Assistant 1 position with minimum starting pay of $13.11 per hour with room for growth based on experience and demonstrated skills.

This recruitment is open to current students of the University of Alaska. All applicants must have a 2.0 cumulative GPA and maintain enrollment in at least 6 undergraduate credit hours, or 6 graduate credit hours for student employment during the academic year. 

It Services will typically consider applicants who can work a minimum of 10 hours/weekly and maintain a consistent work schedule throughout the academic year.  

This is a pooled position, which means that the position remains open over the entire academic year. 

 

IT Services has several divisions that include the Helpdesk, Classroom Support, Media Services, Network and Desktop Support, and Information Systems.  Applicants do not need to possess previous work experience for this position.  However all applicants should have well-rounded communication skills to perform various customer service duties. Any additional training will be provided on the job by the IT Services staff.

A student in this position will operate and/or promote effective use of technology by providing direct technical assistance to UAS students, faculty and staff. This is an opportunity to build skills and get professional experience in a fast paced, dynamic and fun environment.  Work assignments may include:

  1. Answer basic questions and provide general guidance in the use of software programs such as word processors, spreadsheets, web browsers, electronic mail, and electronic conferencing.
  2. Encourage self-sufficiency by directing technology users to information sources such as manuals, tutorials, or seminars.
  3. Install, monitor, and maintain microcomputer hardware and software.
  4. Help operate audio and video equipment in a live broadcast environment.
