Life at UAS: On-Campus & Online

Living On Campus

The Juneau campus offers residential student housing in suite and apartment configurations, including all services and utilities. Be close to your classes, get involved with study groups, activities, and clubs, and let us cook for you with a variety of meal plan options.

JPH Freshman Residence

Located in the heart of the campus, with amazing views of Auke Lake, JPH (John Pugh Hall) is a hub of activities, social connections, and access to educational services exclusively for entering freshmen.

Apartments and Family Housing

Two- and four-bedroom apartment are located on-campus, with connecting paths and a shuttle. Enjoy apartment-style living with the benefits of campus life, including socializing and activities at the central Housing Lodge.

Student Engagement and Leadership

Student engagement and leadership, activities, clubs, and entertainment are essential to a lively on-campus learning community. Opportunities to engage in campus life go even farther, with student newspaper Whalesong, community volunteering, Safe Zone participation, and more.

The official mascot for UAS is Spike, a humpback whale sporting the distinctive brown rubber fishing boots so beloved by Southeast Alaskans. He is the official spokeswhale for Whale Wednesdays—the first Wednesday of every month to wear our love (and UAS logo wear) on our sleeves. Spike loves people and parties: watch for Spike at student events and town parades!

Online Campus

UAS offers tools and resources specifically for students enrolled in online programs designed to facilitate community and collaboration. Once enrolled, an e-Orientation provides information about campus resources, academic expectations, time management, getting involved on-campus and online, the Student Code of Conduct, and Title IX.
