Community Day on Campus is guaranteed to be a great time for the whole family with fun and educational presentations from the arts to safety groups.

The University of Alaska Southeast, Juneau Jazz & Classics, Southeast Road Runners, Poetry OmniBus and the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council is pleased to announce that Community Day 2011 will be held this upcoming Saturday, May 21 from 10 AM to 3 PM on the UAS Auke Lake campus.
This is the tenth year for this event put on as a part of the Juneau Jazz & Classics Festival, which is celebrating its 25th year! Southeast Road Runners will also be holding their 21st annual Sea Coast Relay Race, that finishes up at the event, so it’s a big day for all!
Community Day on Campus guarantees to be a great time for the whole family with fun and educational presentations from the arts to safety groups. There will be pony rides available from the 4H, a telescope fitted with a solar filter from the Marie Drake Planetarium, and the big blue bouncy whale house from the Southeast Alaska Gymnastics Academy and much more! Food vendors will include Spinning Pig Memphis Style BBQ, FryDays, hot dogs from the Flying Lions, cotton candy from the Rocking Ropers and sweets by Chef Stef. There will be visits from Eddie the Eagle, Jeff Brown and his balloon animals, Smokey Bear, Safety Bear and Spike the UAS Blue Whale Mascot. The US Coast Guard and Capital City Fire & Rescue will be there as well as K3 Public Radio.
JJC will be hosting an all day concert with performances from the Juneau Community Band, Poetry OmniBus, Juneau Alaska Music Matters, Floyd Dryden Orchestra, Juneau Strings, Northern Lights Junior Theatre, Woosh.ji.een Dance Group, Thunder Mountain Big Band, CK+, Dzantik’i Heeni Middle School Jazz Band, and the JDHS Jazz Band.
Capital Transit will be running a free bus at 9:30 AM that day from the Downtown Transportation Center out to the event where Poetry OmniBus poets will be doing readings along the route. Everyone interested in poetry and attending Community Day is invited to ride the bus! Capital Transit will also be offering a free bus back to downtown after Community Day on Campus at 3 PM.
