The University of Alaska Southeast (UAS) has seen nearly a 50% increase in new student veterans, veteran spouses, and dependents at UAS this fall semester compared with last spring semester. UAS is honored and excited to welcome them during the fall Welcome Back Open House on Friday, September 6, from 12-1 pm in Egan 222 (Glacier View Room). Veterans and military family members enhance the UAS campus culture by bringing with them deep and vast life experiences, global perspectives, a strong work ethic, and a commitment and desire to complete their education.
The UAS Veterans & Family Student Association club hosts monthly events that include periodic semester check-ins, special speakers/guests on veteran benefits, conversations with elected officials around veteran issues, and round-table discussions with faculty, staff, and administrators.
The club also hosts the annual Veteran’s Day Celebration which has included a veteran panel made up of students, staff, and faculty who share their military experiences with the audience. This event is open to the public, video streamed to the Sitka and Ketchikan campuses, with lunch provided for attending veterans. UAS is committed to serving veterans and their spouses and dependents. They have served the country and UAS is now honored to serve their future.
