UAS Evening at Egan Fall Lecture Series Begins

This Friday, August 30 with UAS Alum Jen Rose Smith, Assistant Professor of Geography, University of Washington

The annual fall lecture series Evening at Egan kicks off this Friday, August 30 at 7:00 p.m. with an in-person and live-streamed presentation, “Ice Geographies: The Colonial Politics of Race and Indigeneity” by Dr. Jen Rose Smith. Dr. Smith will discuss her forthcoming book, Ice Geographies: The Colonial Politics of Race and Indigeneity in the Arctic. Dr. Smith's interdisciplinary research explores the social and political contexts of ice and kelp, highlighting indigenous knowledge and its relationship to coloniality and race. We're so proud and excited to welcome Dr. Smith back to her alma mater to share her innovative work.

This event is a collaboration between the UAS Center for Learning and Teaching, the UAS School of Arts and Sciences, and the Sealaska Heritage Institute (SHI).

Chancellor Aparna Palmer remarked about Evening at Egan: “The series is an opportunity for all of us to delve into the many worlds of knowledge that exist around us, from science to art, from language and culture to history and economics. Each presentation brings our community in touch with captivating and vibrant presenters from all over the United States and the world to engage and inspire minds and hearts.”

All Evening at Egan lectures are scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Egan Library on the Juneau Campus and live-streamed on the UAS YouTube Channel. They are free and open to the public.
