Green Dot

What is Green Dot?

Green Dot is a bystander intervention strategy designed to help participants develop skills in how to intervene when witnessing inappropriate behavior. These strategies are shown to reduce interpersonal violence, including sexual assault, dating or domestic violence, and stalking, on college campuses and in communities.

The Problem: Red Dots

Imagine that each time there is an act of sexual assault, dating or domestic violence, or stalking, a red dot appears. A red dot is one single decision, and enough of these can add up to create a culture that allows unacceptable rates of interpersonal violence.

The Solution: Green Dots

A green dot is a behavior someone can do to stop a red dot from happening or progressing, or to strengthen positive campus norms.

The 3 D’s Intervention Framework

Green Dot uses an intervention framework of the 3 D’s - Direct, Delegate, and Distract.

Direct: Intervene.
Delegate: Ask someone else to get involved.
Distract: Think of a distraction that will diffuse or calm things down in the moment.
