Biography

Dr. Eldri Waid Westmoreland is an educator, scholar, and leader in Indigenous education whose work centers on culturally responsive teaching, Indigenous language revitalization, and place-based learning. She serves as Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator of Elementary Education at the University of Alaska Southeast and previously served as the first permanent principal of Juneau School District's Tlingit Culture, Language, and Literacy (TCLL) Program.

Dr. Westmoreland earned her Ph.D. in Indigenous Studies from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, building on a Master's degree in Mathematics Education and a Bachelor's degree in Education. Her research and leadership focus on Indigenous education, curriculum development, and strengthening educational pathways that honor Alaska Native languages, cultures, and ways of knowing. She is widely recognized for her commitment to educational excellence, community collaboration, and advancing culturally sustaining educational practices throughout Alaska.
