Education

B.A. in Biology from Whitman College, 2019

Willa is from Seattle, the unceded, traditional land of the Coast Salish Peoples. She graduated from Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA in 2019 with a biology major and a gender studies minor. During college, Willa was a NOAA Hollings Scholar and interned at UAF College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences (CFOS) in Juneau, conducting a diet analysis of juvenile sablefish. During that summer,she fell in love with Southeast Alaska. After graduating, Willa moved to Sitka, Lingít Aaní, to work for the Alaska Dept. of Fish and Game (ADF&G). There she worked as a fisheries technician for a year and then worked as the Sitka Port Sampling Supervisor. Willa led a team that gathered data from the commercially caught king and coho salmon at the fish processing plants here in Sitka. Willa is passionate about science and education and very excited to support the UAS RASOR program in her role as a Communications Specialist. Outside of work, Willa enjoys kayaking, hiking, cooking, reading, and fishing.
