UAS Disability Services Complaints & Grievances
Complaints (a complaint/concern is an objection or statement of dissatisfaction regarding accommodations or their implementation).
Step One: If you have a complaint regarding your accommodations or their implementation, your first step is to contact the DS office as an attempt to resolve the issue informally.
Step Two: If you cannot resolve the complaint with the DS office, you may file for an appeal (a formal complaint) by contacting the Vice Chancellor or Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, Lori Klein at (907) 796-6057 or laklein@alaska.edu. It is important that you complete and document step one before proceeding to step two.
The Vice Chancellor will assign one or more individuals knowledgeable in ADA/Section 504 compliance or disability discrimination to review the complaint. The reviewer(s) will determine within a reasonable period of time whether state or federal law, Regents’ Policy, University Regulation, or University rules and procedures have been violated. If so, the reviewer(s) will recommend to the Vice Chancellor appropriate solutions, including academic adjustments and other programmatic accommodations. The Vice Chancellor's decision on the matter will be made after consultation with the Chancellor or designee and such other persons as the Chancellor deems appropriate. The Vice Chancellor's decision is final within the university.
Grievances (a grievance is a charge that alleges unfair treatment).
If you have a grievance, please contact the Office of Rights, Compliance, and Accountability.
Please visit Regents' Policy & University Regulation for the full policy (Chapter O9.06.01, Prohibition Against Discrimination on the Basis of Disability).
