Complaints
Students who have concerns about their accommodations should speak with DS Staff first to attempt to resolve the issue. If the issue is not resolved through an informal process, an appeal and grievance process is available.
Accommodation Appeal Process
A student who feels they have a complaint regarding accommodations (either that appropriate accommodations were not granted by Disability Services or that approved accommodations are not being provided by a faculty member), eligibility, or services through Disability Services should attempt to resolve the issue by speaking with a Disability Services Staff member. If the issue is not resolved, a student should then speak to Lori Klein, Vice Chancellor Enrollment Management & Student Affairs, or her designee. The Vice Chancellor Enrollment Management & Student Affairs is available at 907-796-6057 or by email at laklein@alaska.edu.
Grievance Process
A student who feels they have been discriminated against based on a disability is encouraged to submit a grievance, which will be reviewed by the UAS Office of Rights, Compliance, and Accountability. The UAS Office of Rights, Compliance, and Accountability can be contacted by phone at 907-796-6371 or by e-mail at uas.orca@alaska.edu.
