In addition to reporting to any UA Title IX office, reports of discrimination may be made to the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights. No university official may take disciplinary or other adverse action against a person for reporting what they believe to be discriminatory behavior, even if it is determined the reported behavior was not a violation of BOR policies and university regulations. Assistance is available to everyone; neither party is required to resolve an allegation of unlawful discrimination directly with the other party.

Rights Against Retaliation
The university prohibits retaliation (including retaliatory harassment) against individuals who report sex or gender-based discrimination or who participate in the grievance process, even if the university ultimately concludes that no sex or gender-based discrimination occurred, or who refused to participate in any manner during the grievance process. A violation of this prohibition may result in discipline. Retaliation may be reported to the Title IX coordinator. If the alleged retaliation is reportedly caused by Title IX staff, the retaliation may alternately be reported to the University of Alaska Chief Human Resources Officer. If a Title IX coordinator files a complaint of retaliation for conduct prohibited by the University of Alaska BOR Policy chapter 01.04, the complaint will be addressed using the procedures described in University Regulation 01.02.025.
