Apply for Financial Aid

After submitting an application for admission, being accepted to a degree program, and registering for classes, follow these steps to apply for financial aid.

Complete the FAFSA

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will determine your eligibility for federal grants and loans, state grants and scholarships and some private scholarships. The FAFSA should be submitted every year and is available October 1 for the following fall. There is not a deadline for the FAFSA, but we recommend completing before February 15 to be considered for all UAS scholarships. The State of Alaska requires the FAFSA by June 30 for state aid, including the Alaska Performance Scholarship. Please note the UAS FAFSA school code: 001065

Complete and Submit FAFSA

Submit a scholarship application

UAS offers a variety of different scholarships. You can apply for all of these scholarships with a single Scholarship Application. Each scholarship has different criteria. The deadline to apply for most UAS scholarships is February 15 for the following academic year. Some scholarships may be available after this date.

Loan requirements

If you accepted student loans, you will need to complete Loan Entrance Counseling and a Master Promissory Note your first year. You will need your FAFSA ID and password, which you established when you applied for the FAFSA. UAS will be notified in 1–2 business days after you complete this step.

Disbursement

UAS will disburse financial aid to your student bill starting 10 days before the first day of classes. The Student Accounts Office will use your financial aid to pay for your tuition, fees and housing charges (if living on campus). Any remaining aid can be refunded to you to pay for books or living expenses. You can sign up for direct-deposit on UAOnline to receive your refund quickly. You can follow the status of your refund on your student bill on UAOnline. Once the refund shows up as processed, the funds will be deposited to your bank account in 3–5 business days. Please contact the Student Accounts Office for billing and refund questions.
