Desk Locations and Mail
Housing Desk Locations
Two front desk locations are staffed by Student Housing, located in John Pugh Hall and the Housing Lodge.
Staff at these locations can assist you with:
- Package pickup
- Housing or UAS Resources queries
- Setting up appointments with housing professional staff
- Checking out cleaning equipment
You may check out the following items from both locations:
- Battery pack for jump-starting cars
- Broom and dustpan
- Carpet extractor
- Drying rack
- Hand vacuum
- Ironing board/Iron
- Mop
- Snow shovel
- Swiffer
- Vacuum
You may check out the following additional items at the Housing Lodge Desk:
- Cleaning bucket with rags and general cleaning sprays
- SAD Light
- Sewing kit
- Sewing machine
Housing residents will be assigned a mailbox. Mail is sorted by the mail clerk by 5PM daily, barring any unforeseen delays with delivery.
Mailbox Access
Each resident will be assigned their mailbox number and given a key during the check-in process. Mail keys will be replaced if lost for a $25 fee. Once the lost key is reported, as a courtesy, staff will assist residents with getting mail until the lock has been replaced and a new key has been issued to the residents. Desk staff is not permitted to give out student mail otherwise as it is the responsibility of residents to use the key provided.
Packages/Certified Mail Pick-Up
Package notifications are sent to a resident's registered email to notify them when they have a package to be picked up. Residents will be asked to present their whale card or another form of photo ID to verify their identity before they are given their packages. Packages and any other mail items requiring signatures upon delivery are listed in the Package Log upon receipt. This service is provided at Housing desk locations during regularly scheduled desk hours only – not outside of desk hours.
Package Pickup
Packages are available for pick-up ONLY when an notification has been sent to a resident's email. The volume of packages received demands that strict protocol is followed to ensure accurate recordkeeping and delivery. While we understand that package tracking may state that an item has been delivered, it does not mean that the item has been logged and is ready for distribution.
Outgoing Mail
Mail with standard postage can be placed in the outgoing mail slot located in the entryway of the Lodge or at the John Pugh Residence Hall desk. Student Housing does not have the ability to figure postage for packages; therefore, residents will be directed to the nearest USPS location at Auke Bay.
Mail Forwarding
Student Housing will forward resident mail for up to 30 days after move-out. Pre-sorted standard stamped mail, magazines, non-profit mailings, and other advertisements will not be forwarded.
It is up to the resident to submit a change of address to their subscription providers.
Make sure to update your mailing address on UAOnline so that any offiical communication from the University is properly routed to you.
There is a $35 administrative fee for forwarding any packages. Students must opt-in to mail forwarding during the checkout process from Student Housing.
