Summit 2020

Read the 2019–2020 Summit publication.

The contest is now closed.  We will announce the essay contest winner soon.

What is Summit?

Summit is the UAS Writing Center's Collection of Exceptional Works.

Submit your academic work for a chance to be published in an undergraduate-only academic journal and to enter the Ernestine Hayes Award for Excellence in Academic Writing.

February 15, 2020

Summit will consider submissions from any current undergraduate student taking courses through any of the three UAS campuses. Additionally, while we accept essays written for a class through the university, we will also accept those researched and written under direction of a UAS professor or advisor.

Accepted Works

Due to the nature of the journal, Summit will only be accepting academic works that meet the following criteria:

  • Qualify as academic (no creative works)
  • Do not exceed 15 pages (double spaced), excluding references
  • Present a clear thesis
  • Utilize scholarly references

Each submission will be judged with the same rubric, which analyzes each paper for how well they reflect scholarly writing and the UAS core competencies of:

  • Information literacy
  • Critical thinking
  • Professional behavior reflected in writing

Essay Contest

The paper that exhibits the strongest mastery of the core competencies will be the recipient of the UAS Ernestine Hayes Award for Excellence in Essay Writing, and will be featured with a special spread in the journal.
