Faculty Excellence Awards

Full time faculty awards in Teaching, Research/Creative Activities, Service, Faculty Advising, and Open Educational Practices. Adjunct Faculty recognition for the UA President's Adjunct Award.

Important Notice: 

The nomination period for the UAS Provost's Office and Faculty Senate's 2025 Academic Year Faculty Excellence Awards will open in the spring semester and an announcement will be made via email.

This year's celebration of Faculty Excellence will be held on Monday May 5, 2025.

Purpose of Award

To recognize and award faculty excellence in Teaching, Research and Creative Activity, Service, Faculty Advising, and Open Educational Practices. The UA President's Adjunct Faculty Award program recognizes excellence in adjunct instruction.

Awards will be presented at the UAS Celebration of Faculty Excellence the Monday following commencement.

Who is Eligible?

All full-time UAS faculty — tenured, tenure-track, or term — at any of our three campuses are eligible for the teaching, research and creative activity, service, and advising awards.

The UA President's Adjunct Faculty Award is for those who have taught as an adjunct during the current academic year.

Who can Nominate?

Nominations can be made by UAS faculty, staff, students, or UA system research colleagues. [Note: You must be logged in with your UA credentials (@alaska.edu) in order to access the form.]

Awards

Faculty Excellence Award recipients will receive $1500. [Previous Award Recipients are listed on the Faculty Senate website.]

Applications Must Include

  1. Completed Application Form - The link is available near the top of this web page.
  2. Three (3) pieces of evidence supporting the nomination for full time faculty awards. These may include letters of support from faculty, research/creative activity colleagues, students, staff, or community members stating clearly why the nominee is deserving of recognition. Please be specific about accomplishments relating to teaching, research/creative activity, service, advising - as appropriate - in the current academic year.
  3. The UA President's Adjunct Faculty Award requires a minimum of two items: a letter of nomination and a CV (or similar) of the nominee.
  4. Incomplete nominations will not be processed.

Submit your nomination form with attachments no later than 11:59 p.m. on the due date. The Faculty Senate leadership will evaluate all applications and forward recommendations to the Provost and Chancellor. The Provost and Chancellor will make the final determination of awardees.
