Login and Getting Started

Once you are added as a Siteimprove user, you should receive a welcome email.  Click the link provided in the email to set a password.  If you are a Siteimprove user and have never logged in or can't find the welcome email, please contact the UAS webmaster to have the welcome email resent.

Siteimprove Dashboard

After logging into Siteimprove, you'll be greeted by the DCI Score Dashboard.  Primarily you should concern yourself with the Quality Assurance score.  The Quality Assurance rating reflects items such as broken links and misspellings that potential UAS students and staff will see on your pages.

Finding Broken Links and Misspellings

Siteimprove provides a variety of ways to check for broken links.

  1. After logging into Siteimprove on the left had side, click Quality Assurance.
  2. From the Quality Assurance menu click Links.
  3. Clicking "Broken Links" in the "Links" submenu opens a page with a list of broken links. If you do not see anything on this page, you may be a part of multiple Siteimprove groups.  In the top of the screen, please select a group from the dropdown menu.image showing location of group selection
  4. In the far right of the table, you can see the HTTP status code.  Due to how Siteimprove crawls sites looking for broken links, please only concern yourselves with HTTP statuses of "404: Not Found"
  5. If you click the dropdown arrow in the page column, you can see the the page(s) the broken link is referenced from.  Click to view the error on the page.
  6. Once the page is open, Siteimprove will highlight the error on the page as best it can.Siteimprove highlighted issue
  7. Now that you know where the error is, how do you fix it? At the top of the screen is a button to edit in CMS.  Once you click this button, the page should open in the CMS.location of edit in cms button
  8. In the CMS, click the edit tab to fix the broken link.  If you do not see this tab, please contact the UAS webmaster for assistance.

Alternatively, you can click "Pages with Broken Links" from the "Links" submenu to fix broken links as well.

  4. If you click the dropdown arrow in the Broken links column, you can see the broken links on the pages in the list.  Click the link in the Title | URL column to view the error on the page.
  5. Once the page is open, Siteimprove will highlight the error on the page as best it can.
  6. Now that you know where the error is, how do you fix it? At the top of the screen is a button to edit in CMS.  Once you click this button, the page should open in the CMS.
  7. In the CMS, click the edit tab to fix the broken link.  If you do not see this tab, please contact the UAS webmaster for assistance.

Reading Weekly Reports

Siteimprove and the CMS

Siteimprove is integrated with the CMS, once viewing a broken link highlighted on a page you can "Edit in CMS" at the top of the screen to fix the link using the CMS.  Siteimprove is a tool we use for insights on how the website is doing in areas of Quality Assurance, SEO and Accessiblity.  You can not break the website by browsing around in Siteimprove so please feel free to regularly cruise through Siteimprove to insure your pages are doing well.

Common Errors

Siteimprove Policies

Siteimprove policies offer us a great way to crawl the website for issues occuring across multiple pages. For instance if we want to create a policy to increase our accessiblity rating we could find all links and buttons that say "Click Here" to find these instances. 

Creating a Policy

  1. Click Policy in the left hand side menu
  2. Click Policies
  3. Click the create policy button
  4. Choose Policy category, in this example we'll click content.  Note we can find specific images and documents as well.
  5. Click add rule to policy
  6. From the rules choices select a rule you would like to apply, for this policy "Link text" is selected.
  7. From the select menu select how strict you would like this rule to be.
  8. In the input, type your constraint
  9. Name the policy, and provide details in the notes textarea.
  10. Save changes
  11. Site Improve should instantly search for matches
  12. Click the policy to view the matches and make the nessecary corrections.
